On Slow Software

A short defense of building things that take their time — and of tools that don't interrupt the work.

There is a quiet kind of software that refuses to demand attention. It sits still on the desk, waits until you reach for it, and then does exactly what you asked.

I have been building more of it lately.

Most of what I ship starts as a note in a plain text file. Only when the note refuses to leave me alone does it become a project.
